TRIP COST: $300
WHATS INCLUDED: Students provide sleeping bags, sleeping pads, backpacks, snacks, and other personal gear.
Join us for an awesome weekend enjoying the peak season of fall foliage on the most scenic hiking trail in West Virginia!
The North Fork Mountain Area is part of the Seneca Rocks Unit of a National Recreation Area. On its ridge crest is the district’s longest trail, the 23.8-mile North Fork Mountain Trail.
North Fork Mountain runs roughly north/south. The east side of the mountain slopes gradually down to the valley, however the crest of the west side has a number of large, long, sandstone outcroppings. These outcropping provide spectacular views of the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River as well as Germany Valley, Seneca Rocks, Fore Knobs and Champe Rocks. Looking west beyond the valley one can see Spruce Knob, Flatrock Plains, Roaring Plains, Dolly Sods and the Allegheny Front.

‘The Virginias’ is My Own Backyard’s premier program. The trip traverses Virginia and West Virginia exploring the mountains, valleys, rivers, and farms of these two beautiful states. Students visit a local organic farm, complete a farm project, snorkel the Maury River, visit a mountain top removal coal mining site in the Big Coal River Valley in West Virginia, and explore caves in Highland County, Virginia. Students sleep out under the stars every night, and eat hearty nutritious meals with food purchased from JMD Farm in Staunton, Virginia. Join us on the adventure of a lifetime in your own backyard!

This trip is a good old fashioned, road trip style adventure. It is the perfect follow up for individuals that complete ‘The Virginias’ program. The trails are longer, the rivers are wilder, and the caves are deeper. Trip length is between 10 and 12 days. Past trips included a ‘Summit to Sea’ expedition that traversed the Appalachians through Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina before heading to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and up the coast returning home.

The Mini-M.O.B.sters program is designed to suit the needs and interests of young people between the ages of eight and fourteen years of age. Program length is five days. Groups may fit into the following age range categories: 8-10, 10-12, and 12-14. Check out full program description in ‘Forms’ box.
Potomac River, Maryland
TRIP COST: $950 per season (2 months)
WHATS INCLUDED: Kayak, Spray Skirt, Helmet, Pfd, Paddle. NOT INCLUDED: Cold weather gear for Spring/Fall.
‘riverMobsters’ is our whitewater kayaking school. This program is offered in the fall and spring seasons: September/October, and April/May. Additionally, it is offered as a summer program, one to two weeks in length.
Four to one instructor ratio. Lead Instructors are American Canoe Association Level 4 and Swiftwater Rescue certified.
Canaan Valley, West Virginia
TRIP COST: $400
WHATS INCLUDED: Meals, Lodging, Transport
Join us for a weekend of cross country ski adventures at White Grass ski area in Canaan Valley, West Virginia. We will spend the night in a cabin close to the ski area, and spend the day exploring White Grass and the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area on cross country skis. We leave on Friday afternoon, and return home Sunday evening. Prior ski experience is useful, but not essential.
